I have to say that the Koala is one of my favorite animals. It makes me sad that in less than 30 years they may be extinct. There are about less than 80,000 left in the wild and possibly a lot less than that. Koalas are suffering for many reasons: Habitat destruction, road accidents, dog attacks and fires. Even though the Koala's natural habitat is in Australia, I think it is important to educate people on how they can save them and to understand how important they are to the wild.

The most important thing is to support the protection of Koala habitat. Koalas eat only certain kinds of eucalyptus leaves. When we continue to cut down eucalyptus forests, Koalas are forced to find new homes. Also, they can't find food to eat, they get hit by cars, they get attacked by other animals and suffer from disease. (The picture here is of me with a Koala at the Australia Zoo Hospital being treated for Chlamydia.)

Do all you can to help the Koala. We don't want these beautiful animals to die off forever!
